Description
This simple linen renaissance cap is made of offwhite linen. It is available in sizes medium through 2x to fit all heads. Also known as a medieval coif or Biggins cap, this hat was commonly worn from the late medieval era through the renaissance. Both men and women in all of Europe and England had this hat, it was everywhere.
This linen renaissance cap is one of those costume details that makes a great outfit. You can wear it by itself for a rustic peasant look or wear it layered under a more elaborate hat to show off your style! Because it is a traditional renfaire design, it is suitable for guilds or educational groups. As always be sure to check with your costume coordinator if you are in a group like that so you have approval before ordering.
I make these hats from cabbage, aka leftover fabrics in my studio, helping reduce waste and using ethical fibers too. I based the pattern for this hat on statues and effigies in England during a trip in 2004. Yep, that was me taking photos of the backs of statues.
Style tip for guys: pair this coif with a shady hat and a linen shirt. You’ll look good, I promise. In stock NOW, ready to ship.
